COLD IS GOLD × SPLICE
OPERATIONAL BRIEF · JULY 2026

A predictable flow
of new productions to post.

This document lays out an operational plan to win post-production work on newly green-lit UK and US film and TV productions through cold email outreach — reading time ~ 6 minutes.

Read first

What you are about to read is a first take, drafted ahead of our conversation to give you a concrete preview of how we work.

The prospects, signals and projections presented here are working hypotheses — we will refine them together during the engagement.

The aim of this document is to let you picture concretely what a campaign could produce.

01 / YOUR BUSINESS

We understand your DNA.

Splice is an independent, award-winning post-production house founded in Shoreditch in 2002 and launched from a small room in East London’s Truman Brewery in 2003 by Duncan Western and Damian Dolniak. Today it runs two facilities in Shoreditch and Old Street and is recognised as one of the UK’s leading post houses, delivering offline and online editing, sound design and re-recording mix, colour grading, VFX and datacine to all the major broadcasters, streamers and independent producers. The slate runs from scripted to factual and everything in between: Enola Holmes 3, Adolescence, The Responder, Boiling Point and Plebs sit alongside 400+ factual titles including MasterChef, All or Nothing and 9/11: One Day in America. Every site holds TPN Gold Shield security status, recognised by all the major networks and studios, and the premises run on 100% renewable energy as a BAFTA Albert supplier.

What sets you apart

Splice is boutique by design but plays at broadcaster and streamer scale. The differentiator is the room itself: award-winning talent (including senior re-recording mixer Sam Castleton), the full finishing chain under one roof (offline, online, sound, grade, VFX, datacine, remote), and a client experience built around “the warmest welcome in the business”. TPN Gold Shield status at every site means Netflix, Sky, the BBC and the studios can place secure, high-value content with confidence. For a producer choosing where to finish, that mix of craft, security and care is what separates Splice from both the faceless mega-facilities and the smaller rooms that cannot clear studio security.

What we will push on your behalf

Splice’s full-service post — edit, sound, grade, VFX — pitched to producers the moment their production is green-lit and still choosing where to finish. Post is a relationship business won on history, trust and the last programme delivered, so the angle is never “here is our kit list”: it is arriving early on the right job, with the right reference (a director or DoP Splice has cut for, a comparable title already on the slate). Cold email does the heavy lifting your sales team dreads — finding who is producing what, and when — so your team spends its energy where it wins: building the relationship and closing. The pain we open on is universal in 2026: every producer with a fresh commission has weeks to lock a post partner and no time to audition them all.

02 / YOUR MARKET

A market identified and qualified.

We start from the flow of productions that get green-lit each year across the UK and US — the only moment a post house can realistically win the work, as you told us: there is no point reaching out to a company with no production on. We keep the whole middle of the market and cut only the two extremes: tiny, no-margin low-budget TV, and the £15m-plus trophy features that go to the reputation houses. What remains is scripted drama and comedy, high-end factual and documentary (your biggest lane) and independent, sub-£15m features. Sized conservatively, that is around 3,800 green-lit productions a year where a producer, line producer or post supervisor still has a finishing decision to make.

~3,800
green-lit productions per year
UK + US commissions in band: ~600 scripted drama & comedy + ~2,200 high-end factual & documentary + ~800 independent sub-£15m features, excluding low-budget TV and £15m+ trophy productions
~1,900
contactable prospects
after applying the 50% ratio (named producer or post supervisor + business email findable and verified)
~31
commercial opportunities
over 12 months (weighted mean of the 4 scenarios, 4 emails per prospect)
~6
potential new productions won
over 12 months (UK B2B average closing rate: 20%) — on programme budgets from £50k to several million, a handful of won jobs pays the campaign back many times over

How we build this database

We cross-reference commissioning and green-light announcements (Broadcast, Televisual, Variety, Deadline, Screen Daily, C21, TBI), IMDbPro and production-tracking data, Companies House, LinkedIn Sales Navigator and prodco slate pages to find the productions that have just been commissioned and the producer, line producer or post supervisor attached to each one. Every contact is then verified and enriched by AI: role check, business email validation, and a scrape of the title’s stage (green-lit, shooting, heading into post). Impossible to do by hand across thousands of productions a year — this is what makes reaching the right person at the right moment possible at scale.

Why 50% are contactable

Producers, line producers and post supervisors are rarely listed in public databases with a direct business email, and they move from production to production. This 50% ratio is deliberately conservative — a live green-lit slate typically yields 40% to 60% verified contacts through Sales Nav, Apollo, Hunter and our enrichment stack — so the projections stay realistic rather than optimistic.

This sizing keeps the whole addressable middle of the UK + US market and cuts only the two extremes you flagged: tiny low-margin work and £15m-plus trophy productions. The ~6 figure is market headroom, not a capacity promise — Splice is a boutique house with finite suite time, so the real constraint is how many of these jobs you want to take, not whether the pipeline can surface them. We can tighten (UK-only, scripted-only, features-only) or widen (add Ireland, Canada, English-language Europe) once Phase 1 has run.
03 / PROSPECT SAMPLE

10 productions identified by our AI.

Before launching at full scale, we always start with a sample of 10 real, recently green-lit UK and US productions, picked across your three lanes — scripted, factual and features — to show the approach works for all of them. For each one we name the producer or production lead, surface the green-light signal, and explain why the production fits Splice’s post offer. The same method is then applied to your full base of ~1,900 contactable prospects.

For each prospect, our AI identifies a concrete signal: a fresh commission, a green-lit series, a film going into production, a director or piece of talent already in Splice’s orbit. That signal justifies why to reach out now — the moment the production is choosing where to finish — and gives the email its opening line.

This sample mixes four scripted series (The Chelsea Detective, Stepping Up, The Hairdresser Mysteries, Schooled), three high-end factual and documentary productions (Buried, Terror on Long Island, Ben Fogle: Made in Sheffield) and three independent features (Unspeakable, Night Swimming, Bare) — a preview of what your full pipeline will look like. You will validate it and steer us before the campaign goes live.

01

The Chelsea Detective — Series 4

Ella Kelly · Producer / Executive Producer
London-set crime drama for Acorn TV and ZDF, four 90-minute films starring Adrian Scarborough. Produced by Expectation Entertainment.
SIGNAL DETECTED

On 5 August 2025 Acorn TV and ZDF green-lit a fourth season of The Chelsea Detective, produced by Expectation Entertainment, with filming under way for a 2026 premiere. The run is four 90-minute films.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

Four feature-length crime films is a substantial offline, online, grade and dub package on a returning series with a fixed delivery pipeline — a boutique house’s sweet spot. Splice’s work on The Responder is the directly relevant credit to open on.

02

Stepping Up

Ben Worsfield · Series Producer
New 6×30' Channel 4 sitcom written by and starring Josh Pugh. Produced by Roughcut Television.
SIGNAL DETECTED

Channel 4 commissioned Stepping Up on 14 August 2025, a six-part single-camera comedy from Roughcut Television, the indie behind People Just Do Nothing and Stath Lets Flats.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

The strongest hook in the sample: Roughcut made People Just Do Nothing, already on Splice’s slate. A returning-format C4 sitcom needs offline, online and a comedy dub, and Splice can honestly say “we cut your last one”.

03

The Hairdresser Mysteries

Grainne O’Boyle · Producer
1970s-set cosy-crime drama for BBC One starring Sally Phillips, created by Jim Cartwright. Produced by Mill Bay Media with Night Train Media.
SIGNAL DETECTED

The BBC confirmed The Hairdresser Mysteries in September 2025, a period cosy-crime drama from Mill Bay Media, with a BBC One premiere set for 17 July 2026.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

A 1970s look lives in the colour grade, and a returning-potential BBC crime series carries steady edit and mix work. Splice’s drama craft on The Responder and Adolescence maps straight onto a mid-budget period crime commission.

04

Schooled

Afolabi Kuti · Founder & Executive Producer
6-part Channel 4 sitcom set in a London school, created by Delia-Renée Donaldson. Produced by Broedmachine via C4’s Diverse Indies Fund.
SIGNAL DETECTED

Channel 4 green-lit Schooled on 15 May 2025, a six-part comedy from BAFTA-winning founder Afolabi Kuti’s Broedmachine, with cast including Charithra Chandran and Munya Chawawa added in August 2025.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

An ensemble school comedy is a bread-and-butter edit, mix and grade job, and a founder-led indie without in-house finishing is far more likely to shop post than a studio. Splice’s Plebs comedy pedigree is the natural reference.

05

Buried

Dan Ashby · Producer & Co-founder
2×60' investigative documentary with Michael Sheen on “forever chemical” contamination in South Wales, for BBC Two. Produced by Smoke Trail Productions.
SIGNAL DETECTED

The BBC commissioned Buried on 26 January 2026, a two-part Michael Sheen investigation into contamination claims in South Wales, from journalist-founded indie Smoke Trail Productions.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

A premium investigative doc needs a sensitive offline edit, a clean mix and a considered grade — squarely Splice’s 9/11: One Day in America factual territory. A small founder-run indie with no in-house post is a prime reachable target.

06

Terror on Long Island

Philippa Keogh · Managing Director & Head of Production
3×60' true-crime docuseries on the Gilgo Beach / Long Island killings, for Sky Crime. Produced by Peninsula Television (Dublin / New York).
SIGNAL DETECTED

Sky Crime commissioned Terror on Long Island in early July 2026, a three-part series on the Gilgo Beach serial killings from independent true-crime specialist Peninsula Television.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

Multi-part true crime demands a tight edit rhythm, archive and forensic grade, and an immersive mix — the exact craft Splice brings to premium factual. An Irish indie shooting a US story needs a London finishing partner.

07

Ben Fogle: Made in Sheffield

Mark McMullen · Executive Producer
2×60' factual-entertainment series for Channel 5 following Ben Fogle reviving Sheffield outdoor brand Buffalo. Co-produced by Daisybeck Studios and Wander Films.
SIGNAL DETECTED

Channel 5 commissioned the two-part Ben Fogle series on 20 August 2025, co-produced by Leeds-based Daisybeck Studios and Middlesbrough’s Wander Films, airing 2026.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

A returning-brand factual-entertainment arc is a clean offline, online, grade and mix package, and a regional indie without a large in-house post facility is a natural fit for a boutique London room. Splice’s All or Nothing and MasterChef work is the comparator.

08

Unspeakable

Rob Watson · Producer
UK psychological-horror feature directed by Corinna Faith, cast Eliza Scanlen and Essie Davis. Produced by Air Street Films with BFI and Ffilm Cymru Wales backing.
SIGNAL DETECTED

WestEnd Films boarded world sales on Unspeakable in February 2026, with production under way in Wales in spring 2026 — a genre feature heading into finishing now.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

A creature-led horror lives or dies on the grade and the sound design, the two disciplines a boutique house wins on. With the film shooting now, the timing to pitch offline, online, grade and dub is immediate.

09

Night Swimming

Elettra Pizzi · Producer
Feature drama directed by Tom Stuart, starring Ben Whishaw and Peter Mullan. Produced by 130 Elektra Films with Bankside Films handling sales.
SIGNAL DETECTED

Cast and financing on Night Swimming were announced in May 2026, with Bankside Films selling and a UK shoot set for early 2027 — an early-relationship play, opened before the post decision is even close.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

A boutique, character-driven drama with a named-talent cast is exactly the full-service edit, sound and grade job Splice does well. Opening the relationship a slate ahead is how post work gets won in a business built on history.

10

Bare

Marcus Warren · Producer & Founding Partner
Coming-of-age London survival drama, feature debut of Lorna Tucker, cast Colin Firth, Isla Fisher and Florence Hunt. Produced by Consortium Pictures.
SIGNAL DETECTED

Bare was filming in London in spring 2026 and showed a first look at the Cannes market in May 2026, a debut feature from Consortium Pictures with an award-calibre cast and DP Seamus McGarvey.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR SPLICE

A London indie with this cast and DP is heading into post imminently, and a London prodco is on Splice’s doorstep. Splice’s feature slate (England Is Mine, Northern Soul) makes it a credible finishing home for a character-led British drama.

04 / AI PERSONALISATION

Emails that look written by hand.

The difference between an email that gets deleted and an email that gets a reply is rarely the offer, it is the first sentence. When a producer or post supervisor opens an email and reads a line that names the exact production they just got away, the commissioner behind it, or a title Splice has already finished in the same lane, the email earns the right to keep going. Cold is Gold’s AI workflow extracts those facts at scale across thousands of green-lit UK and US productions, then weaves them into the opening line so every message reads as if a human spent two minutes on the recipient. No flattery, no horoscope copy, no “I came across your website”, just a precise, verifiable fact in the producer’s own vocabulary, tied to the post work Splice wants.

The principle: when a producer reads the email, they should think “this person knows my show”, not “this is a bot”. Every opening sentence cites a precise, verifiable fact in industry vocabulary — green-lit, commission, offline, online, grade, dub, delivery, turnaround.

Here are the 3 types of signals we would use to personalise every email sent on your behalf, stacked from most-findable to most-personal so the AI pipeline always has a clean fallback.

01

The green-light itself (a fresh commission or green-lit production)

What we look for The specific title just commissioned or green-lit in the last few weeks or months, who commissioned it (broadcaster or streamer), its format and its stage — because a post house can only win the work when there is a live production on.

AI personalisation →

“Saw The Chelsea Detective is back for a fourth run with Acorn and ZDF. We handled the online, grade and mix on The Responder, so this kind of London 90-minute crime is right in our lane if you have not locked your post yet.”

02

The finishing discipline the format will lean on

What we look for The dominant post discipline a production will live on — VFX for a creature or effect, a period colour grade, an investigative-documentary mix, a true-crime archive edit — inferred from the logline, the format and the director’s past work.

Unspeakable is a UK psychological-horror feature directed by Corinna Faith, about a creature that preys on new mothers, shooting in Wales in spring 2026 with WestEnd Films handling world sales.

AI personalisation →

“A creature-led horror lives or dies on the grade and the sound design. That is where we spend most of our time on genre features, so if Unspeakable is heading into finishing we would love to talk offline and dub.”

03

A shared collaborator or a comparable title on Splice’s slate

What we look for A director, DoP, exec or piece of talent on the new production who overlaps with someone Splice has worked with, or a title Splice has already finished in the same genre and format that can be named as a direct comparable.

Good to know: phases 2, 3 and 4 run in parallel with the technical setup (phase 1). Concretely, during the 1-month technical warm-up we build your database and write your sequence — so the first emails go out from week 5.

Phase 1 — Technical setup

Creation of dedicated sending domains, SPF/DKIM/DMARC configuration, opening and setting up the email addresses, launch of the warm-up (1 month). No action required on your side.

Phase 2 — Workshop (1h)

A structured working session to define together the structure of the database, the tone of voice for the emails, and to gather your case studies and key differentiators. This phase runs in parallel with phase 1 (Technical setup).

Phase 3 — Sequence copywriting

First draft, feedback rounds and optimisations with you, then layering in the AI personalisation (the signals shown above). We validate the overall email content with you before moving on to the database.

Phase 4 — Database build

We assemble a sample of prospects (like the 10 above) for you to validate. Once approved, we build the full database with quality control: field verification, contact qualification.

Phase 5 — Campaign launch

Sending starts as soon as the warm-up is complete. First results within the first week. Real-time tracking: open rate, reply rate, opportunities generated.

Phase 6 — Reporting & optimisation

Real-time reporting through our platform. Continuous adjustments and A/B testing on subject lines, opening sentences and sequences. Regular monthly or quarterly check-ins depending on results.

Our commitment
No contractual commitment on the number of opportunities.

How the guarantee works in 3 clauses.

D0 · Launch
CLAUSE.01
Our commitment

We commit to generating at least opportunities per month, i.e. opportunities over months. This target matches the low scenario of our projections (10% of our clients' campaigns).

M+1 · Check
CLAUSE.02
If we fall short of the target

As soon as a month closes below opportunities, your billing is immediately frozen. Concretely: you stop paying from that month onwards, until we have fully caught up the cumulative shortfall. You never pay for a month where we don't deliver on our commitment.

M+3 · Limit
CLAUSE.03
If the shortfall persists over 3 consecutive months

Termination is possible at no cost. We keep working at our own expense during those 3 months of shortfall; beyond that, we acknowledge the failure and you are no longer billable for what follows.

Dynamic values

The figures shown in these clauses are not fixed: they are recalculated automatically based on the parameters set in your simulation above. The final contractual commitment will depend on the parameters validated together at the start of the engagement.

Contractual definition of an opportunity: a prospect responding positively to one of our prospecting emails — either an information request or a meeting request.

In addition to fees, 3 technical costs to plan for.

The first is a one-off investment that you own for life — your prospects remain yours, even if you stop working with us. The other two are monthly technical subscriptions, essential for any cold email campaign.

A FINAL WORD

This document is not a sales pitch. It is a projection built on the real numbers from our campaigns — the scenarios presented are not promises, they are averages observed across our clients.

Our method has been operational for several years. It works as soon as the fundamentals are in place: a clearly identified market, a differentiating positioning, a measured closing rate. Splice has all three.

Our conviction is that we can install for you a steady flow of qualified conversations with producers the moment their productions are green-lit — with indicators we steer together, month after month.

Whenever you want to talk about it concretely, we are here.
